GENERAL & BOOKING FAQS

What if I have any questions?
Please check our web site and these FAQ’s first. If you can’t find the information you need we can be contacted by email or telephone to answer any questions. In the first instance, call us on 01761 462162 and leave a message if no reply. There is always someone you can contact by telephone during your stay.

How do I make my booking?
Once you have agreed dates, accommodation and price with us please call us to pay your initial deposit (normally £10 per person). On payment of your initial deposit, we will email a booking form with all the details of your accommodation booking. A second deposit is normally payable (within 14 days OR as specified on your booking form). Please note that all deposits are non-refundable. Your final balance payment is due 8 weeks before your date of arrival unless otherwise agreed and as specified on your booking form. You may pay by debit or credit card (2.5% fee on credit cards, no fees on debit cards).

Should I take out travel insurance?
We strongly recommend that you take out travel / holiday insurance. If you already have it, or are purchasing it, please check that holiday cottage rental is covered. You should in particular ensure you and your group are protected against cancellation charges, illness, loss or damage to personal effects, medical expenses and any other insurable event. If you are participating in any activities during your stay, whether arranged with us, or not, we again recommend that you check you are covered for these activities.

How do I book activities, catering, minibus or other services?
We will provide you with contact details for our own activity company, and our preferred suppliers for catering, minibus transfers, etc. For some activities & services you may need to pay a deposit / booking fee on booking, and the balance 8 weeks before arrival, some activities are payable in full on booking. Call 01761 462162 for more information.

Someone in my group only wants to stay for 1 night, can she pay less?
Our properties are booked on a property basis for a maximum or agreed number of occupants. If someone stays for just one night, it is up to you to divide the cost as you wish between your party members.

I want extra people to visit the property during the day, is that ok?
If you want extra people to visit during the day, you must advise us of the number of people you would like to visit and time they would be present and we will request permission from the owner. If the owner gives permission there will be a visitor fee. Most properties have a maximum number of people that are allowed to occupy it at any one time. If you exceed the maximum number, or have more people than agreed for your booking, you may invalidate the owners insurance and/or would be in breach of contract, therefore it is essential that you tell us exactly how many people you would like to have at the property and ensure you have written permission.

ACTIVITY FAQS

What activities are available?
We have our own activity company, which offers a range of activities to suit every group. All are 2.5 to 3 hours and are held on site at your property or close by: Go Wild woodland Bushcraft Challenge with wild food foraging, fire-lighting & bush bow archery (with optional Bush Tucker Trial), Competitive Target Archery, Pasta Making, Cupcake Decorating, Garter Making, Vintage Accessories, and seasonal countryside activities such as Jam-making. We have also selected other providers who can offer high quality activities including Butlers in the Buff, Pamper Treatments, Catering and Minibus services.

What are the timings of the activities?
Go Wild and Making & Baking activities can normally be held at 10am or 2pm on Saturdays, or 10am, 2pm or 6pm on Fridays. Activities last from 2.5 to 3 hours.

Can I bring in my own activity provider such as a cookery lesson - or a stripper?
As a result of groups using uninsured and inappropriate suppliers we can no longer allow groups to bring in any activity provider (this includes workshop tutors, cook/chefs, strippers, nude models, life drawing classes, etc) to any of our properties, their gardens or grounds. Our own activity company can provide most of your needs with qualified, fully trained and insured tutors and we have a list of pre-approved suppliers for most services. If you have a particular activity you want that’s not on our list, we will try to find you a suitable provider and ensure they are appropriately qualified and insured. Please contact us for more information.

Someone in my group is pregnant or has a health issue or allergy - are the activities suitable for her?
If a member of your group has a health issue, please advise us before booking your activity, or as soon as possible. Most activities we provide (even Go Wild) can accommodate pregnant ladies, injuries or allergies if we know in advance. None of the activities are dangerous or physically strenuous.

Are there any local pubs we can go to within walking distance?
There are some nice pubs in the area. The Gate House has several pubs in a short walking distance. The Farmhouse, White Cottage & Glampsites have pubs within a 30 minute across country (on footpaths/off road) walk, or short drive.

TRAVEL & TRANSPORT FAQS

Where are the properties?
All of our properties are South-West of Bath and Bristol in the Chew Valley and Mendip Hills area of outstanding natural beauty. Travel times to central Bristol vary around 30 minutes and to Bath approximately 35 minutes, depending on which property you have booked. We provide detailed directions, maps, and other useful information about your property with your final confirmation, 8 weeks before arrival.

Can we get a minibus transfer into Bristol or Bath for a night out?
We have a local, family-owned and run minibus service offering safe & reliable return transfers to Bristol or Bath, at any time, from all of our properties (other than the Somerset Cottages), at £15 per person for groups of 8 to 16. Smaller or larger groups, or groups staying at the Somerset Cottages should enquire for individual quotes, but it is not normally more than £17 per person.

What is the nearest train station?
Bristol Temple Meads station is the easiest for most properties as there are frequent trains to this major station. From the station, you can either take the airport flyer bus to Bristol Airport, then get a taxi (5-10 mins depending on which property), or get a taxi from the railway station. Weston Super Mare railway station is a little closer to the Somerset Cottages. Most properties are 5-10 minutes from Bristol International Airport. Bath is approximately 35 minutes from most properties. We provide detailed directions, maps, and other useful information about your property with your final confirmation.

Can we get minibus transport from the train station or airport, or from our home town?
We can help you arrange a minibus to collect & return your group from Bristol Temple Meads train station or Bristol Airport at £15 per person (min 10), we can also ask our minibus company to quote to collect you from your home town or another location, please enquire.

PROPERTY FAQS

What is provided in the property?
All our self-catering properties provide bed linen, towels, and most will have hairdryers, ironing board, iron, etc. Kitchens will be generally well equipped with cooker, fridge, cooking utensils, saucepans, plates, bowls, cups, glasses and cutlery. Larger properties may have TV’s in some bedrooms as well as a TV & DVD player in the lounge. Please bring an iPod docking station if you require one. If you have any particular requirements at your property, please ensure you check with us before booking. There will be a starter supply of toilet rolls, etc, but unlike a hotel or B&B, a self-catering property is not serviced during your stay so you will probably need to bring or buy more.

What happens when I arrive at the property?
We will normally make arrangements for the owner (or a representative) to meet you at the property to show you around, give you the keys, and answer any questions.

What times are check-in and check-out?
You can arrive from 4-7pm on the day of arrival (3pm at the Somerset Cottages) or later by arrangement, and you must vacate by 12.30 on Sunday or 10am if on a Monday.

Can I arrive earlier, before 4pm, on the Friday?
Other than the Somerset Cottages where you can arrive at 3pm, we are unable to arrange early arrivals before 4pm on Friday as property owners need time to prepare the property. Please ensure all members of your party are aware that they should not arrive before 4pm (3pm Somerset Cottages), thank you.

Do I pay a damage deposit?
You are responsible for taking care of the property during your stay and should ensure it is secure during your stay and leave it in a clean and tidy condition on departure. We don’t normally take up-front damage deposits, but on arrival you may be asked to provide card details against which any damages or excess cleaning can be charged by the owner, the same as in a hotel. Please see our booking conditions for more information.

Can I have a supermarket delivery at the property?
Yes, you can, but please book delivery for Friday, at the correct time for your property at the times listed here. You must email us to tell us if you have booked a supermarket delivery, otherwise we cannot guarantee that someone will be able to receive it: The Glampsites 11am-1pm; Somerset Cottages 3pm-5pm; Farmhouse 9am-12 noon; Gate House 11am-1pm, White Cottage 11am-1pm. Please do not arrange a supermarket delivery for any other times, thank you.

Are there any restrictions on music, noise, fireworks at the property?
Fireworks, candles, tealights and Chinese lanterns are all expressly forbidden at our properties and in the grounds. Smoking is not permitted inside any property and we ask that smokers only use designated smoking areas outside, where requested. We expect our groups to show consideration for neighbours at all of our properties and it is a condition of booking that loud music / noise cannot be heard in neighbouring properties and no nuisance or disturbance is caused to neighbours. We ask that groups do not use any outside decorations including balloons, external banners or lights in the gardens, on front doors or attached to gates/fences, as these can come adrift and cause a hazard on roads, and to animals nearby so owners are instructed to remove these if used - thank you for your understanding. Internal decorations may be used providing they do not mark or damage furniture, windows, etc, and all trace is fully removed at the end of your stay. Owners are entitled to make charges if damage or excess cleaning is caused by decorations.

Is there a BBQ at the property & do I need to bring charcoal?
All our properties have BBQ's. The Glampsite and Somerset Cottages have gas BBQs and gas is provided. For all other properties, charcoal BBQs are provided and we recommend you bring a bag of fast lighting charcoal. Please do not bring disposable BBQs as they are very difficult to get rid of.
